Laisa Qaqjurajuk

Laisa Qaqjurajuk was born in 1935, and was elderly by the time he moved to Kinngait. His testimony includes information about the relocation of his mother, his sisters and their children to the High Arctic by the Hudson’s Bay Company when he was about eight years old. He and his father were left behind because his father did not want to relocate. The relocatees never came back and his mother remarried. He talks about the importance of dogs for the community. The dogs were not tied up. His father’s dogs were never slaughtered but he remembers that he had to kill his own dogs when he moved to the community.
