Jacob Uppik

Jacob Uppik was born in 1958 in South Camp, a camp community near Sanikiluaq. His testimony presents childhood memories of the period when his family moved from South Camp to Sanikiluaq. Jacob testifies in the name of his father, Simonie Uppik, who has passed away. Prior to the move, Jacob's father, who became a councillor in Sanikiluaq, was ordered by the government to kill most of his dogs. As a witness, Jacob recalls the shooting. He never had a dog team after that, which he regrets, especially because of the high cost of skidoos today.
